Sounds of Underground Lusaka
Russell Lyseight’s love for music began early - under a kitchen table in the UK, where the sounds of childhood piano lessons lit a lifelong spark. By his teens, he was mastering the bassoon, playing in school orchestras, jamming jazz-funk on keyboards, and spinning records on vinyl and CD decks across the UK.
From Liverpool to London, Bordeaux to Edinburgh, Russell carved out a place in the underground music scene - DJing, curating, and eventually running his own live venue in East London, Three Blind Mice. It was in that reimagined warehouse space, alive with creativity and connection, that he saw how powerful small stages could be when fuelled by big-hearted music.
So when he moved to Zambia, he knew exactly what he wanted to create: a space that captured that same energy - raw, inclusive, and artist-led. In June 2022, Sounds Of Underground Lusaka (S.O.U.L) came to life.
Today, Russell brings a deep love for genre-blending sound, a global musical lens, and an unshakable belief in the power of creative spaces to uplift and unite. Whether spinning neo-soul at sunset or curating showcases of Zambia’s rising stars, he’s always listening for the sound beneath the sound, the soul in every story.
